BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Sussex (E)

The motto at the south reads: "Carpe Diem". The dial shows 4am to 8pm in half and quarter hours, using XII and IIII with a noon gap, the numerals being read from inside the dial. Inward stylised arrow heads mark the half hours. There is a 16-point compass and maker’s name and the date are shown. The gnomon was missing in 2003 but a new one had been fitted by 2013. The pedestal commemorates the coronation of George V. The dial was originally in the garden of the Ranger’s House in the Royal park. The pedestal was carved in 1910 by Eric Gill, who lived locally, and founded an ’ideal community’ there.
