BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Walmer Castle and Gardens, Walmer

This is a 9 ring armillary sphere is in the grounds of the castle. The dial’s motto reads: ’Inter Caesarem et Galbam Sol Ministrat Umbram’ which can be rendered as ’The sun shines alike on beggars and kings’. Hours are shown from 6am to 6pm (at least) in half and quarter hours. Roman numerals use the form XII. It has horizon, equatorial, meridian, SE/NW, SW/NE and polar circles with supporting semicircles and is set on a low square stone column. The postcards show an earlier horizontal dial.
