All Saints’ Church., Brailsford

There are supposed to be three dials at this church. This appears to be the best. It is high up on the roof of the nave. According to the inscription on the dial It dates from 1734 , the maker was John Blakesly, and the motto read ’Ut Hora Praeterita Fugit’ . The church wall does not face exactly south so the dial is canted (tilted) about 10 degrees to correct for this. It has once been a good dial but is now showing its age.
