BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Charles Cotton’s Fishing Temple, Hartington

The cottage is a Grade II Listed Building in Beresford Dale on the River Dove, about 1km south of Hartington. It was built by Charles Cotton and commemorates his associaiation with Isaak Walton, author of The Compleat Angler. A motto over the door reads: ’Piscatoribys Sacrvm 1674’, with interlocking monograms ’CC / IW’. The dial is fixed to the apex of the hut’s roof. It is surmounted by a round finial, then a weather vane, and - a final flourish - a trout. The dial has four declining faces, with all gnomons remaining. The hour lines are clear but there appear never to have been any hour numerals.
