BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Wrest Park [EH] (2), Silsoe

This double horizontal dial is located half way down the garden, set on an elaborate octagonal baluster pedestal top and base. It is an electrotype replica of the original 1682 dial plate (SRN 2125) which was held at English Heritage, Westminster but has now been moved back to Wrest Park and is held at The Dairy, behind the main house. The stereographic projection has 1 degree declination lines and 5 minute hour lines with hours labelled 1-12 & 13-24 across the equator, and ecliptic lines and zodiac signs. There is a date scale in days and months, and a 128-point compass rose, and an azimuth scale to a half degree. There are 16 chapter rings labelled A-Q showing the latitude and longitude of 16 places. The names and right ascensions of 12 stars are shown, and there are Moon’s age and Epact tables. The dial shows 4am to 8pm (delineated 3:45-8:15) in intervals down to 1 minute, the 10s being numbered, with fleurs-de-lys half hour markers. The gnomon has crests and floral engraving to both sides, with the motto "FOY EST TOVT". Ref BSS Monograph No 5 (M6 & DH-34). 2024 update: The gnomon is now missing.
