BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Melrose Abbey (1), Melrose

Strange half hexagon shape to dialplate with date at top in centre of what would be the hexagon. The dial is incised at low level into the dressed stone of the south wall of the building. It shows 6am to 6pm in hours. Numerals 6-8 and 4-6 orthogonal to hour lines 9-3 in line horizontally. Two gnomon support holes close together near root. Ref: Cole 1935
