BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
This sundial is located near the verandah at the rear of the house. Roman numerals show 4am to 8pm in 30, 15, 10, 5 and 1 min divisions and use the form XII and IIII. The 1 min marks are numbered in tens (Arabic). Numerals viewed from outside the chapter ring and there is noon gap. The ’S’ shaped supporter to the gnomon is in form of a bisected hemisphere. The dial is mounted on a baluster pedestal with circular capital and octagonal base. It is believed to be Charles Darwin’s own dial. Early pictures exist of this dial in Cambridge UL.
Update August 2016 - the gnomon has been removed.
