Edwards Homes, Weymouth

Edwards Homes is an impressive building of brick and stone on the north side of Rodwell Avenue. These alms-houses were built in 1896 for Sir Henry Edwards local MP and philanthropist. The sundial is above the door of the central section. Vertical Arabic numbers show the hours from 6am to 5pm. Full hour lines emanate from a semicircle at the gnomon root and pass through the numerals with half and quarter hours marked in and to the chapter ring. The substantial gnomon has an ornate support. There is no sub-style gap. Motto, at the top of the dial: ‘Reflect his light in thy life’
