BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Sea Shanty Cafe, Branscombe

Situated in the rear courtyard is a 19th century spherical sundial of stone set on a stone column. It has no gnomon but as the sun moves round the globe a shadow -the terminator - is cast by the globe itself. The hour lines are drawn from pole to pole at 15° intervals and the hours, numbered below the equator, run from VI-VI, though for some reason 8am is labelled with an Arabic numeral.. The axis of the globe should point to the north celestial pole but this dial does not seem to be correctly aligned.
