BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Market Place, Ringwood

This is a human analemmatic dial, to be found about 100 yards south of the Parish Church. The dial has beautifully carved hour numbers on separate stones set into the block paving, albeit sadly laid out in the wrong shape. There are two rings of numbers (for 6am to 6pm GMT and 5am to 9pm BST), but unfortunately they are arranged in circular, not elliptical arcs so are not as accurate as they could be. The BST circle is very much smaller than the GMT circle, but this does not seem to be correctly reflected in the length of the date scale. Four stones between the two hour rings mark the cardinal points of the compass. At the north end of the date scale is a black granite slab under which a time capsule has been buried. The top of the slab is carved with arrows pointing to nine other places around the world called Ringwood, giving their countries or states and the variation of their local time from GMT. Although the dial was only installed in 2000, the condition had deteriorated badly by 2015, with the summer month stones and some of the hour stones crumbling.
