BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Mary the Virgin’s Church (2), Thame

Recent replacement of an 18th century vertical dial on the east buttress of the south transept. The original dialplate was cracked and eroding. It was replaced in 2000 with this one, which still uses the original gnomon. Unfortunately, this beautifully engraved and gilded dial has errors. The transept wall declines about 8 degrees west of due south, and the gnomon is angled accordingly, in line with 12:40. But the gnomon is too high off the dial. It should touch the dial at the 6am/6pm line but it doesn’t. Also, the 6am/6pm line is horizontal which is correct only for a due-south-facing dial, not a declining dial. Some of the other hour lines are also incorrectly angled (11am-to-noon should be a greater angle than noon-to-1pm but is less, for instance). There is a commemorative plaque below.
