BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Northamptonshire

The dial is in the Rose Garden, set on an octagonal stone pillar with octagonal capital, overall estd 1000mm high. Cities are marked in a single circle inside the chapter ring: Mexico, Charlestown, New York, Barbados, Tenerife, Dublin, Paris, Rome, Jerufalem, Babylon, Surrat, Bantom. Each place name has a noon mark shown by ’XII’. Hours IIII - XII - IIII - VIII read from inside, and divided to 30, 15 and 7.5 minutes inside the chapter ring, and to 10, 5 and 1 minute round the outside, the 10 minutes marked with Arabic numerals. Central 16-point compass rose labelled to N B E (North by East) etc. Each of the 16 points is divided on the outer edge of the rose to half, quarters and eighths. Prominent fixing bolt at S end. ’S’ shaped gnomon supporter with scroll attached.
