BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Market Square, Ely

The dial is set into the brick paviours in Market Square, in the middle of Ely. Avoid Market Days for viewing. The 3m long slate index slab is marked with abreviated months. At the top is the makers name and at the foot the latitude and longitude. The time indicators, using Roman numerals, show 5am to 7pm in hours. A four point compass is to the south of the dial. Motto reads: ’Ye are the light of the world, a city built on a hill cannot be hid’. Matt. 5:14
