Around the dial inside the chapter ring is the motto reading: "What shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul?" The dial centre is divided into four sectors. The southernmost two show an EoT table of corrections with date and zodiac and with a winged cherub below. The north-west sector reads: "To know the time the equation table read and S of Z as ’sign of zodiac’ read, If in ETERNITY thou seeks’t in Bliss to live, in TIME a living answer to my question give." In the north-east sector is a crown with ’NO’ on either side an ancient cross from St Buryan churchyard and the reference St Matthew XVI 24, 25, 26. Shows 4am to 8pm in 30, 15 and 5 mins, Uses XII and IIII. Split Noon line. Numerals are read from outside chapter ring. Eight compass directions are marked. The dial is mounted on a black circular section marble baluster pedestal with a square capital and stepped square plinth. Memorial inscriptions on base. There is an adjacent block step from which to read the dial.
