BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Hythe Quay, Colchester

Armillary sphere on large 20ft high tower located in centre of roundabout at the junctioon of Haven Rd, Colne Causeway and Hythe Quay. Dial supported by a fish’s tail. Gnomon in form of a trident. Equatorial ring has Roman numerals though the dial is far too high to read as a sundial. At an adjacent roundabout (Colne Causeway, Hawkins Rd, Eastern Approach) a similar tower sports a globe ’structure’ on a conventional base.
