BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Church of the Assumption of St Mary, Holnest

The dial is above the porch, fixed with stainless steel bolts. It shows 6am to 4pm in 30min marks, using XII and IV. The support for the bronze gnomon takes the form of the date 2000. All the lettering and lines are incised and painted black. An inscription across the base reads "Holnest Parish 2000", and is overlaid in part by the Great Crested Newt which is in relief. The newt is seen as a salvation. Its presence in the parish resulted in it being declared an SSI - so diverting a proposed rubbish tip. Funds from the grazing income of that land paid for the dial. The dial was delineated by C M Lowne and R A Nicholls, and carved by Mark Chapman of Dawlish.
