BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Sutton’s Hospital, Islington

The dial is mounted on a pedimented stone edifice at roof level on the Great Hall. It was probably restored after the fire in 1941. The furniture is of gold leaf on a burgundy ground, and includes the Arms of Sir Thos Sutton (founder of The Charterhouse). The dial shows 7am to 5pm in half and quarter hours, using XII, IIII and unusually VIIII, the numerals aligned vertically, with decorative circles between them. There is no split Noon. The rod gnomon has a single straight horizontal supporter. Hour lines emanate from a large near-ellipse surrounding the Coat of Arms.
