BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Mary & St Luke’s Church, Shareshill

This substantial dial is in the churchyard, south of the tower. It shows 5am to 7pm in half and quarter hours, using XII and IIII, the numerals being read from outside the chapter ring. At the centre is an 8-point compass rose. The dial is signed ’Tarratt - - - Lathbury, Wolverhampton’ probably for Tarratt, Neve and Lathbury, ironmongers who traded in 1839-1848. The dial may therefore be dated to within these dates, and Tarratt & Co were probably the sellers rather than the makers. The gnomon is broken, but the base remains. The dial is mounted on a tapered, circular section, sandstone pedestal 1355mm high, on a square stepped base.
