BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Old Garden Cottage, Blandford Forum

This delightful dial is on the front wall of the house, about 4m from the ground. The time from 8am to 7pm is shown in half hours with Arabic numerals. The ornate gnomon has a notch (nodus) the shadow of which runs along the single declination line on July 3rd (a wedding anniversary). The arched top is finely carved in relief with a rising sun and a bird as well as the initials of owners JB and PB. On the lower part of the dial there is a realistic carved snail. [There is some uncertainty about the location of this dial. More information requested.]
