BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Rose Cottage, Compton Chamberlayne

The dial is on the east side of the road into the village from the A30, between the first floor windows of the cottage. The hour lines are not parallel so this is probably a great decliner which is very close to being a Direct West dial. Letters read LMB 1720. Shows 1pm to 8pm in half hours. No split sub style. IIII for 4pm. Arabic date. Some erosion with VII and VIII numerals damaged at edge. Set flush in stone wall. Thin iron sheet gnomon with two supporters.
