BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

The dial is on the north bank of the Thames, adjacent to the Millennium Bridge. It commemorates the millennium, using exactly 2000 blue engineering bricks and enclosing a time capsule. It uses Roman numerals for VII - noon - IV - V for GMT, and Arabic for 8 - 12 - 6 for BST. The hours are divided to 30 and 10 minutes. This is one of three similar dials - see also SRN 4277 (Chatham, Kent) and SRN 4279 (Greenwich, Greater London).
