BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

1, Higher Eglos Cottages, Ludgvan

On the front of this cottage can be seen a vertical dial of slate declining 5° west. It carries the motto ’Time and Tide Wait for no Man’ and the date ’11 AUGUST / 1999’. It was commissioned from the maker, Ben Jones, to commemorate the total solar eclipse of that date, which was visible in this area. The initials on the dial are those of Maureen and Ray Fordham and the two circles in the lower corner represent early and late stages of the eclipse. The dial shows the hours VII-VI undivided.
