BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Chatsworth House (3), Edensor nr Baslow

A Campbell-Stokes Sunshine Recorder by Casella of London, Type Mk III C, Serial No 10183. It is set to latitude 52 N, and shows 6am to 6pm in 30 & 15 mins. The time can be read by the point at which the paper starts to smoke! Two paper tracks are used, for winter and summer. It stands on a simple wooden pedestal, part of a weather station on the Salisbury Lawn, in daily use for the Met Office
