BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

All Saints’ Church, Swallowfield

A vertical dial on the south wall of the nave, next to a memorial to Edward Swayne who died in 1650 and is said to have erected the sundial. The dial is strongly canted from the wall to make it face due south. The hours are marked by vertical Roman numerals in a rectangular chapter ring. 5am and 7pm lines are unnecessarily shown above the horizon line. IIII is used for 4pm, and a cross for noon, as is common, but VIIII for 9am is unusual. Half hours have shorter lines except for 8.30 am which has been ’overdrawn’. The gnomon appears rusty. See Victoria County History: Berkshire Vol III p273.
