BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

The Church of St George, Hatford

The dial is at the west end of the south wall and is canted to face due south. It is very corroded but originally showed 6am to 6pm in half hours, and a few lines and Roman numerals are still visible in the upper right hand quarter of the plate. Early records indicate four mottoes, three of which read: "Cheminez tandis que vous avez la lumiere 1668", "Ut hora sic vita", and (in Hebrew) "The day is short and the work is great". A Greek motto has never been recorded. Note that this church is at the west end of the village and should not be confused with the Victorian church, with a tower, on Sandy Lane. The church was abandoned for 100 years until 1970s, and is not shown on OS maps. Ref Gatty 1890 p 64 and Victoria County History (Berks) IV 462.
