Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Killerton House [NT] (2), Broadclyst

The horizontal dial in the garden is a reproduction of an earlier dial by Benjamin Martin of London (1704-1782) which was stolen in 1996. The present dial stands on the original baluster pedestal, just over a metre high. The plate is inscribed at the south, read fron the north "B Martin / London / Lat 50° 50’ ". The gnomon is inscribed on the east side ’Killerton House’, with the design latitude and longitude, and on the west with the names C St J H Daniel & A Evason (delineavit), L D O Connell (caelavit), Plowden & Smith (fecit), and ’Reconstructed London’. It shows the hours from IV - VIII read from the outside and divided into half hours and 10, and 2 1/2 minute intervals. In the centre is a 16-point compass rose, labelled to NNE etc. Ref: Original dial see SRN 3223
