The dial on the East Terrace was designed and built to represent the emblem of the British Horological Institute and is discussed at length in three articles in the society’s journal. There are twentyfour hour markers are on the inside of the wide steel hour band that unusually is horizontal and not in the equatorial plane, with Zodiac symbols on outside of the band, in gold lettering on black. The dial is held by an inclined semicircular support of wrought iron, and mounted on a downward tapered octagonal concrete column 1500h set on a raised viewing platform. Ref: "Horological Journal" 1977, Vol 119, March pp29-31, April pp20-28, May pp45-49.
