By the tower at the west end. A superb dial inscribed with memorial text and maker’s name. Partly infilled gnomon. 32-point compass divided to 10, 5 and 1 degrees. EoT scale is ring marked Watch Faster/Slower etc, to individual days. Shows IIII - XII - IIII - VIII from outside, with noon gap, in 30,10 and 1 min intervals, fleur-de-lys on half hours. Heavy oxidation but otherwise excellent. Mounted on an octagonal arch-decorated pedestal, 600 diam and 1600h, itself on a 6-inch high octagonal stone platform. The inscriptions, read from the outside, are at the south: ’The Gift of Eda Ravenscroft __ / __ of this town’ ’ANNO DOMINI 1809’, and at the north: ’HARRIS / 17 Holborn / LONDON’.
