BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Michael’s Church, Shute

The church porch faces roughly South West and has upon it a bronze dial which declines 35° West. The earliest time it can show is 10am but it continues to keep time until 8pm. The hours X - VIII are divided into halves, quarters and intervals of 5 minutes. In the lower part of the dial plate is an Equation of Time table with the explanation, ’Slow means that the dial is slower than the clock. Fast - faster than the clock.’ In the upper and narrower part of the dial is a memorial inscription which reads, "Erected by T.J.Clode in memory of Mary his beloved wife 1888" and following this a motto, "Man is like unto vanity his days are as a shadow that passeth away. Ps. 144 v4." The dial measures about 300mw x 600mmh.
