BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

West Bay House, Shaldon

On the south gable of this house is something which looks, from the position of the gnomon, as though it should be a vertical south dial. It purports to show the hours VI-VI but the numerals VI-VIII are all above the horizontal. If the dial plate were to be rotated anticlockwise so that the two Vis were horizontal it would still be wrong because the root of the gnomon would then be far too high. There are no hour lines. The dial is probably painted on a metal plate.
