BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Dorset
The gnomon is missing. Mounted on a wooden stump with metal hexagonal top of side 170 mm. Shows time from 4am to 8pm at 15 min intervals.
The pedestal is said to be the remains of a gallows. The dial is said never to tell the correct time because of its gruesome association with a murder perpetrated by a Dorset woman in 1803. Mrs Harbin had been told that her husband intended to cut her out of his will. She determined to prevent him from doing so in the most brutal way possible, and persuaded her son and a male accomplice (said to be her lover) to murder him. A part of the gallows used to hang them was made into the base of this sun-dial and presented to the vicar.
