BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

High St (West end), Gosport

A magnificent equatorial dial in an armillary sphere. The dial shows hours from 8am to 8pm (BST) corrected for longitude but not EoT. The sphere has only E-W, N-S (meridian) and horizontal rings. The design represents the Bishop of Winchester, Henry of Blois, sailing into the harbour in 1144 and giving the town its name of God’s Port. The plinth, in the form of a windlass, is set on brick base infilled with granite setts. The dial was delineated by Joanna Migdal and made by Brookbrae Ltd. Reference: BSS Bulletin 97.2;
