BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Deny’s Church, Stanford Dingley

An attractive vertical dial near the gate on the entrance path to the church. This looks like a memorial but has no personal details. The semicircular dialplate has hour lines for 6am to 6pm, with aligned Roman numerals only from 8am to 4pm: VIII - XII - IV. There is a noon gap for the very thick solid bronze gnomon. The hour lines appear to be accurate for this latitude. Mottos read: "Qvas Male Qvas Melivs" and "Degebas Denotat Horas" (The hours show how ill or how well you pass the time [?]). The lower motto is written in a curious manner, with parts of the words on different levels. Above the dial is an elaborately formed ornament shaped rather like a dutch gable. This contrasts with the very plain yet elegant dial area.
