BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Michael’s Church, Basingstoke

Rectangular vertical direct south-facing dial above the south porch door. The dial is engraved with full length hour, half and quarter hour lines and vertical Roman numerals from 6am to 6pm. It uses XII at noon and IIII at 4pm. The dialplate is quite badly weathered and stained green from the copper in the gnomon. The gnomon is in good condition and has an elaborate S-shaped supporter. Above the dial the motto reads: "Sic transit gloria mundi". A dial in the same place can be seen on an 1830 engraving of the church - probably the same dial. Unfortunately, a tree now shades the dial.
