BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Laurence’s Church, Reading

Large rectangular vertical dial high on the south face of the church tower. The dial declines slightly east of south and has hour lines from 6am to 5pm with Arabic numerals aligned with the hour lines. There are also half and quarter hour divisions (indistinct on this photograph). The motto across the top reads: "Vigilate et Orate". In the centre are initials ’G P’ and the date ’1727’. This dial is mentioned by Mrs Gatty, The book of Sundials, (1900) p466. Note that in the church is a monument to John Blagrave who wrote "The Art of Dialling" in 1609 and invented several sundials. Blagrave Street is named after him.
