BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St John’s Church, Tunstall

A really vintage vertical dial, dated 1637, recessed into the wall over the south porch of St John’s Church The Inscription across the top is unclear but appears to read: "TE...LUM TUNSTALLIAE DEDICATUR ... ST MICHAELO 1637". A small semicircle around the gnomon root contains: "HW 1637". The dial face and gnomon are liberally adorned with verdigris. The shallow recess into which the dial has been mounted, probably used originally for some other purpose, unfortunately shades it at times from the sun. It bears upright numerals VI - XII - IIII - VI, with quarter hours marked in the chapter ring.
