BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Cholmondeley Castle, Malpas

There are nine sundials on this irregular cube. The main one is a horizontal, and there are four vertical dials, one on each cardinal face. A minor dial is formed on each top corner by establishing pockets at 45 degrees to the edges. The S dial is a hemispherical cavity with no lines; the W is a trapezoidal cavity; N is a flat face with faint incised hour lines; and E is a ’D’ shaped section, half a hemisphere with some painted hour lines visible. No metal gnomons remain. On the south is the date ’1685’. The cube is set on a small white base block, not its original site, though it is oriented correctly.
