BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Church of St Leonard, Upton St Leonards

The dial is in the middle of the approach path to the Church. It is a cube mounted on a low pedestal of three substantial blocks, the lowest 120 square, the highest 490 square. It is surmounted by a square pyramid of iron rods= with three diminishing circles in each leg. Dials are delineated on the east, south and west faces but only the west gnomon remains. The south face has upright numerals VI - VI, with a cross for noon and IIII for 4. The east and west faces have Arabic numerals, east 4am to 10am, and west 1pm to 8pm, both with flat-topped 8s. All faces have hour lines only, no subdivisions. Each side of the uppermost square pedestal block is inscribed in Gothic script. East: ’Man goeth forth to his work’ (Psalms 104:23); south: ’Children of Light’ (Ephesians 5:8); west: ’The night cometh’ (John 9:4); and north ’A rest for the people of God’ (Hebrews 4:9).
