BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
In the garden to the NE of the house is a bronze horizontal dial by Shuttleworth , a London optician and instrument maker who worked from1756-1797. This dial is dated 1783. It shows the hours IV-VIII divided into halves and quarters with further divisions of 10, 5, 2 and 1 minute. The single minutes are marked by two circles of 2 minute marks offset by one minute. The 10 minute marks are numbered in Arabic numerals. The maker’s name is on the dial which also has a 16-point compass rose. The dial is mounted on a fluted cylindrical stone pillar which echoes the decoration on the house itself.
