BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

St Mary’s Church, Hickling

The dial is located above the south porch and may be a replacement for a larger one. The surface is rendered with cement and has possibly been recut. The words of the motto are arranged in two columns, read across and then down, to make ’Semper Progressum Mandato Divino Semel Reversum’ (Always advancing by command divine, only once reversing). The dial shows 6am to 6pm in upright staggered Roman numerals, using IIII for 4pm. Across the foot of the dial is ’B Passon / J Ga[z?]e’ on the left, and ’Church / Wardens’ on the right, with the date ’17 / 93’ in the centre. There is a single supporter to the strip gnomon which unfortunately feeds rainwater to the dialplate.
