BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Powis Castle [NT](2), Welshpool

This is an early stone dial, probably 17th century but possibly earlier. The dial face is round but some outer parts are missing. No markings are visible but the flat blade gnomon with a vertical support is still in place (1996). The pedestal is octagonal (?) and fluted with thin horizontal ribs and a star shaped base standing on a square plinth. It stands far away below the level of the ’castle’. The dial top was (in 1996) loose on a wall near the public entrance.
