BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Scotney Castle [NT], Lamberhurst

The dial stands near the Bastion Viewpoint to the south east corner of the house. It is probably modern although inscribed 1713, with the motto ’Festina Lente’. Hours are IIII - XII - IIII - VIII, read from the outside, with a noon gap and full length hour lines through the numerals, from a small circle around the gnomon toe, and divided to quarter hours. The gnomon has an integral ’S’ support. The dial sits on a reconstituted stone plinth, 850 high, inscribed ’To commemorate fifty years . . . by the tenants on the Scotney Estate: 1893 - 1943’.
