BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Sundials are not always what they seem and though this square brass horizontal dial bears the date 1642 and a maker’s name, ’John Restall, Frome fecit’ it is most probably a Pearson Page dial dating from around the beginning of the 20th century. It shows the hours IV-VIII divided into halves, quarters and eighths of an hour. In the centre is a sun face and a 16-point compass rose. The motto reads ’So glides ye Tyme. So wears ye daye, these moments measure life away’. The gnomon has a dolphin supporter and the dial is mounted on a stone plinth with a square capital.
