BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

The dial is behind some converted stables. The original dial (405 dia) has an added rim of ’T’ cross section forming a ’lid’ over the pedestal edge, and containing 4 mottoes including ’HORAS NON NUMERO NISI PHOEBO INSTANTE SERENAS NI SOLIS VATI VOX SINE SOLE TACIT’. This motto was composed by W H Hyatt, see Gatty 1900 motto 444. The original (inner) dial plate contains: 16-pt compass rose labelled to ENE etc; clockwise EOT ring; and two rings of place names. Numerals IIII - XII - IIII - VIII, read from outside, with transversals giving reading to one minute. Stone baluster of octagonal cross section, acanthus leaf decoration under capital, and leaves at base. Made possibly by Thomas Wright or an apprentice.
