BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

And now for something completely different. For obvious reasons it is called a bowsprit gnomon. It is on a traffic island, you can’t really miss it, but don’t try reading the time when driving round. There are 17 hours marked by inlaid bricks but are not numbered, so the dial works for GMT and BST! Constructed 1990. There is a plaque with explanation, and the Equation of Time graph to enable calculation of clock time. There are quite a lot of modern giant sundials, usually constructed with modern materials, but not all are good. This however was designed by a Chairman of the British Sundial Society and is excellent and certainly makes it to the Cheshire Top Dials list.
