BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
Large rectangular vertical dial on the top of the tower.
The tower declines significantly east of due south, so the gnomon is canted to the left and the 6 o’clock line is not horizontal. The dial has a semicircle round the gnomon root from which full length hour lines run to the rectangular chapter ring. There are shorter half and quarter hour lines. Vertical Roman hour numerals run from 6am to 5pm, with XII at noon and IIII at 4pm.
The gnomon is a metal strip with two straight supporters forming a tripod shape.
The motto above the dial reads: "So Flys Life away". Church wardens’ names and the date 1738 are engraved on the stone below the dial.
The dial is listed by Mrs Gatty (1900), p 406 but she has a few mistakes on the inscription.
