BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Cemetery Chapel, Lyndhurst

Strange vertical dial above the porch door. Note that the cemetery is off the Beaulieu Road. Turn into Bolton’s Bench, go straight at the war memorial. Very strange (and wrong!) delineation. Of the hour lines, some are above the horizontal, most do not converge on the foot of the gnomon or any other point (so, for instance, the 6am and 6pm lines do not meet as they should) and to top it all there is no noon gap despite a thick gnomon. Of the numerals, the IX is reversed so looks like XI and all the others are read from inside the dial - not usual on a vertical dial. Lastly, the gnomon angle is far too large - it might be correct on a horizontal dial. In all, despite its fine marble dialstone, this dial is a lesson in how not to make a sundial. Alice Liddell, the Alice of Wonderland fame, is buried in Lyndhurst - perhaps this is a Wonderland sundial.
