BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Newby Hall (2), Ripon

This is a cast horizontal dial in the rose pergola walk, on the western edge of the estate. It sits on a square stone table used originally for other things, supported by an excellent square, tapered, fluted column on a two step plinth. It is a common or garden cast dial but in a superb setting. It shows 4am to 8pm in hours, using XII and IV, with numerals in relief, read from the outside, and vestigial hour lines only. In the centre is a crude 8-pointed compass rose, labelled to NE etc.
