BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.

Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.

Dial in Hampshire

Circular horizontal memorial dial, with a chequered history. It was originally in the public Scott Gardens but was damaged, stolen and recovered several times before being rescued by the current owner. The dial has a large 8 point compass rose in the centre. The chapter ring has Roman numerals aligned with the shadow and read from outside the dial. They span 4am to 8pm and use IIII at 4 o’clock. Tick marks divide hours into 30, 15 and 7.5 minute intervals. There is a motto: "Tyme Tryeth Trothe" [Time tests faith]. The dial sits on a square capital which has writing around the edge saying: "THIS GARDEN IS / IN MEMORY OF / SIR LESLIE SCOTT P.C . / 1952". The pedestal is a replacement, as is the aluminium gnomon. Note that the nearby dial SRN 3023 has the same motto: "Tyme Tryeth Trothe" [Time tests faith].
