BRIDOL is the British Sundial Society's Register of Fixed and Mass Dials, which gives detail and photographs of about 8000 fixed sundials and 3000 mass dials in the UK.
Some of these are in private gardens, but the majority are publicly available.
In grounds to west side of the cathedral. Cube dial with gnomons on all four faces. Weathered faces, little visible. Some markings visible in 198x on S, E and W faces. East face has Arabic Nos and shows 4am to 10am in half and quarter hours. South face appears to show half and possibly quarter hours and West face just hours - but possibly half hours or even quarters since these are on the East face. Possible pock marked half hours on S face. Double wavy under supporter for S gnomon. Mounted on quadruple stone column on circular stepped base all about 3m high. Strange domed top surmounts dial.
The geograph web site reports that ’A sundial near the south doorway of the cathedral was removed in 1781 and re-erected in 1785 at the west end in order to regulate the clock on the tower. It was removed in 1881 and passed into private hands. It was returned to the cathedral in 1929 and placed on a pedestal in its present position south of the naveĆ.
